Welcome to Sound & District Primary School.

Ethos and Values Statement
“Our children are the future”
At Sound and District Primary School, we are committed to providing the very best start in life for every child. We work in close partnership with parents and carers and take pride in being a welcoming and valued part of our local community.
Our Ethos
We are a friendly, caring and nurturing school with a strong family feel, where staff and children work together in an atmosphere of respect, trust and collaboration. We celebrate the individuality of every child and ensure that all pupils feel safe, valued and supported.
We believe that education extends beyond academic success. Our aim is to develop the whole child—intellectually, academically, creatively and emotionally—so that every pupil leaves us as a confident, well-rounded individual.
We strive to foster high levels of self-esteem, pride in achievement and a lifelong love of learning. Curiosity is encouraged, questions are welcomed and children are supported to explore and discover the world around them.
Our Values
Our values underpin everything we do and are lived out daily by our pupils, staff and wider community:
- Team Player
We encourage our community to work together towards our common goals, maximising everyone’s strengths. - Resilient
We will be resilient in all the adventures and challenges we face and never give up. - Independent
We develop the skills to become independent individuals. - Curious
We are curious about the world around us, asking questions and exploring answers. - Caring
We are thoughtful, caring individuals who create a nurturing environment for each other. - Wellbeing Warrior
We encourage ourselves and others to look after wellbeing and to understand emotions.
Our Commitment to Excellence
We believe that excellence should be encouraged in all aspects of school life. From learning and playing together to behaviour and conduct, we promote high standards, positive attitudes and mutual respect.
Through our ethos and values, we aim to ensure that every child leaves Sound as a confident, capable and compassionate individual, ready for the next stage of their journey.
Where is our school?

Sound & District Primary school is situated three miles south of the town of Nantwich, in a pleasant rural locality, catering for children aged from 4-11 years. Known originally as Broomhall Board school, and later as Sound Council school, the school dates from 1876. The original Grade II listed building still exists, and has been added to and extended over the years, marrying the old Victorian origins of the school to the new.
Our School Surroundings
Our school has extensive grounds including a playground, two large fields, one of which has games pitches and benches, a low adventure play area, an orchard (which has recently been revamped by The Kings Trust) and a wildlife garden. In April 2013, our new classroom was completed by our incredibly active and supportive PTA, as well as the provision of a school car park on Wrenbury Heath road. A thriving private nursery, Outdoor Fun, is also housed in the school grounds and caters for pre-school children throughout the week, as well as providing Breakfast Club & After School care.
Our Academic Successes
In our academic year 2023/24 at Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 we were above National in reading, writing and maths. Please see further information below to find out more about what we have achieved.
More details can be found on the Government website.
Our School Community
We recognise that we can only achieve the best for all of our children by involving parents, carers and the wider community in every aspect of school life. The governors, staff and myself are committed to working in partnership and will provide frequent opportunities to share the progress our children are making and how we are working with them.
We endeavour to ensure that every one of our children feels safe, happy and cared for in our school; that they become confident, articulate, caring members of our community and global individuals of the future.
We look forward to welcoming you to our school.
