Topaz Class

In Topaz Class, we pride ourselves in being caring, considerate and a hard-working team.

Reading

In Topaz Class we really promote a love of reading, taking every opportunity to share, read and engage with a range of texts across the curriculum as well as for pure enjoyment! Your child will have a reading book at all times as well as a diary to record and track home and school reading. Please ensure that they are in your child’s book bag every day. It is really important that your child reads as much as possible. We ask that you try to read with your child each night, even if it’s just for 5 minutes. Your child will also have frequent independent reading time throughout the week in school. 

PE

Topaz class PE will be on Wednesday and Thursday .   Please send your children into school wearing their PE kit on both days.   During the Winter, children should have both tracksuit bottoms and shorts as we could be outside come rain or snow! 

Playtime

During lunchtime, the children can use the field.  Please ensure your child has a change of footwear in a plastic bag and a pair of tracksuit bottoms to change into if they want to go on the field.

Homework

Homework in Topaz Class consists of a range of activities designed to support and enhance the children’s learning in school.

Regular homework activities include:

• Times Tables Rock Stars: Completing set challenges to develop multiplication skills and improve times tables fluency.
• Reading: Reading independently on a regular basis to support reading progress and enable children to complete Accelerated Reader quizzes.
• Spellings: Learning weekly spellings, which are sent home every Friday and quizzed  the following Friday. These spellings can be practised online using EdShed.

In addition, children may be given extra activities to encourage exploration and deepen their understanding of topics being covered in the classroom.

All homework activities are designed to reinforce classroom learning, develop independence and help children build confidence in their skills.

Volunteers

At Sound, we always welcome volunteers to come and read with the children, work alongside the class or even volunteer for clubs or special activities. If this is of interest to you, don’t hesitate to speak to the office or the class teacher and they will point you in the right direction.
