    Welcome to Year 3

In Opal class we take pride in being a well mannered class who accept and celebrate our differences.

Your child will be given a reading book and diary to take home and read. Please ensure that they are in your child’s book bag every day. It is really important that your child reads as much as possible. We ask that you try to read with your child each night, even if it’s just for 5 minutes. Your child will also have lots of opportunities to read and enjoy books throughout the week in school.

Currently, our PE days are WEDNESDAY and THURSDAY . Please send your children in with appropriate clothing depending on the weather. During the Winter, children should have both tracksuit bottoms and shorts as we could be outside come rain or snow! Girls should bring tracksuit bottoms too as they are not to wear tights underneath shorts. Your child will be leaving school in their PE kit on both Tuesday and Friday. Please try to make sure it comes back in on the next school day.

Our playtime is now at 10am until twenty minutes past 10. We will be using the playground, field and climbing equipment so please ensure that your children have a change of shoes ready for playtime.

Our homework is set on a Wednesday and is due back in on the following Tuesday. It will be marked on Tuesday and therefore, it is important that it is handed in on time to ensure it is marked. Our homework is either linked to our learning in Maths and English or will occasionally be Geography/History based. It should take no longer than 30 minutes for each piece. If it is a longer piece, the children will be told before hand.

Spellings will be handed out each week on a Friday to be tested on the following Friday. If a large portion of the class struggle, the spellings may be extended to allow more time to practice.

At Sound, we always welcome volunteers to come and read with the children, work alongside the class or even volunteer for clubs or special activities. If this is of interest to you, don’t hesitate to speak to the office or the class teacher and they will point you in the right direction.

Mr Delaney is the teacher in Opal Class.
